We loved Austria. What beautiful scenery! We drove along the Attersee in the Salzkammergut area. We spent so much time driving around the lake that we were in a bit of a hurry to get to Salzburg and find accomodation before it was too late. In our haste we missed the Sound of Music House - I was not happy!
Tip: You cannot drive quickly through Austria as there is so much to see and do (and so many photo stops). Salzburg was a lovely place with lots of history. We liked also liked Rattenberg (the glass blowing town). We also stopped at Swarovski Crytal World at Wattens (I don't have the words to describe it. Artistic and Out there isn't enough!
We also spent some time at Innsbruck but the weather wasn't on our side. It was raining and the clouds covered the surrounding mountains so we didn't get to see it at its best.
Once again, there were so many castles and churches on the hilltops. The Alps were just spectacular. We stopped several times and I was amazed to hear a Cuckoo in the wild.
Once again, we had to move too quickly through Austria for my liking to get back to Germany again to meet with more family. We will go back.
