Although I've been here in Kandahar for almost seven months, this is my first official entry in my brand new travelogue! I plan on going back to recap the major points I've had so far. I arrived here November 5th via London, Armenia, and a 24 hour stop in Bishkek. Stepping off the plane, I instantly felt as though I had never left. ( I was here for 3 months with the military the previous summer) The journey over here is quite different as a civilian on British Airways rather than military transport. I flew BA from the states and I think the movies and free flowing alcohol were the highlight of my trip! :) I had to take advantage of the opportunity since Kandahar Airfield is mostly dry....there are only a few countries that allow their troops to drink alcohol here and even then, it's in moderation. I'm still not sure how long I plan to be over here. It is quite an experience, but I would like to be able to see more culture. It is very boring to work 12 hours per day, 7 days per week, and never leave the base. I hope that I am able to come up with some entertaining and exciting things to write about even though I'm stuck in Groundhog Day. :) My next vacation is in September. I will be spending time at home in Illinois (I'm the maid of honor in my friend Katie's wedding!) as well as visiting a couple of new places. Where else I go is still to be decided...I'm thinking London/Ireland or maybe Germany. I can't wait to have great stories to tell about my travels!
