Sunday March 27th
Caught my midday flight to Puerto Montt, unusually arriving at the airport with plenty of time, with the plane again not full.

Takes some time in getting a bus to the city, so give up on the idea of getting to Castro today, and decide to stay in Puerto Montt. Bus station as busy as Lonely Planet described it, even though its Easter Sunday, and its nice to see some activity after the quiteness of Punta Arena.

Not a particularily pretty town, but vibrant streets, crowded with markets etc, and stay in a relatively expensive (by my recent Chilean standards) hostel, where I get my own room and TV!

Monday 28th March 2005
Caught the first bus to Castro, on the island of Chiloe, and Im the only foreigner on the bus - something I love!

Far greener landscape here than deep south Chile, and we reach the ferry, where we stay on the bus, then onto Ancud, then Castro, my destination.

No touts awaiting me at the bus station, so I have to go and find my own accomodation.

Castro is a relatively pretty little town - run down in parts as per all Chilean towns, and host to the usual stray dogs everywhere, but nice all the same.

Investigate the Palifettos - houses on stilts built on the sea, and whilst nice, difficult to see from land, and not nearly as impressive as the stilted houses in Brunei.

Onto Iglesia San Francisco De Castro - a good example of the many wooden churchs you see in Chiloe, and whilst looking a little tired on the outside, ornate wood inside, coupled with wax work figures of every religious figure you could name.

Try and fail to book to go somewhere for tomorrow - fail as they arent running tours etc unless there are 5 or more people - and I dont think there are that many foreign tourists in town!

Tuesday 29th March 2005
Day off today - laundry, CD burning, and wandering, plus nice lie in.
