Today was the Coramandel Peninsula - some unsealed windy mountain roads, and reach the really nice town of Whitianga - ostensibly to catch the ferry (which turns out to be passenger only), so have to double back to take the land route.
My aim was Hot Water Beach - really nice beach, where you hire a spade ($4), go to where the rocks are, dig yourself a pool, and let the hot springs underneath heat the water.
After a few false starts, my pool was magnificent - anti tide defences that prevented my pool getting washed away when everybody elses did, drainage chanels, I was even going to add changing rooms but i thought that was a bit too much.......One minor failing - there was no hot water - clearly no spring under my patch! - so I "borrowed" a pool from somebody who was leaving - and just lied there, nice and warm, watching the sea..with about 100 other people.

Walked the 1.5 hour walk to Cathedral Cove, which was hot in the blaring sun and steep cliff walks, but so worth it -
Cathedral Cove is an archway carved by the sea, and the views are spectactular - stunning rock formations, shearing our fo the sea, and helped by a very strong tide - to get from one part to the other you had to run to avoid being literally washed away by the tide.
Spent most of the day here, and then returned to swim in the sea of HaiHai beach (where I am staying) - surf was incredibly strong - and quite dangerous, and extremely tiring, but excellent fun - I only nearly drowned once!
