So now we're in a town south of Kunming called Jianshui. It's noticeably less humid here but still hot.

The sleeper bus to Kunming was nowhere near as bad as we had been expecting. We were told that we had booked a decent bus. The sleeper bus had around 30 beds (bunk beds) with 2 narrow isles. This meant that there were bunk beds running down either side of the bus and a row in the middle. Once on the bus, shoes had to be taken off and Dave took a side bed whilst I took the middle. The bus was clean and blankets were provided with each bed.

The bus left on time and we got into Kunming south bus station at 07:00. The journey had a about 5 or 6 toilet stops and there were at least 2 police check points where they would come of the bus and check I.D cards, passports and visas. At the 2nd checkpoint they were even checking peoples bags and under their beds for something (that of which I don't know). After about 15mins of waiting, we'd be on our way again. The only bad thing about the beds were that they were quite narrow.

In kunming we bought tickets for the 08:00 bus to Jianshui which took a little over 3 hours to get to. We booked ourselves 1 night in in a dorm in Jianshui International Youth Hostel for 25rmb (2.50) and headed out to eat. On our way to the restaurant we were greeted by a young boy who welcomed us to his town. We ate 'across the bridge rice noodles' for lunch and the family that owned the restaurant were very friendly and welcoming. They gave us 4 mangos for free once we had finished.

So, much of today has been spent wandering around the town seeing what Jianshui has to offer - which is pretty much nothing. However, I like this town. It's not as busy, noisy or dusty as some of the other places we've been to. There are very few tourists here and the old town is pleasant to walk round and there's a large bustling market down one of the streets.  We came across an area with about 50 pool tables outside so we decided to play for an hour for 5rmb (50p).

We're now back at the hostel and will soon be going to sleep. Unfortunately, there is no aircon so the room is absolutely boiling! To make things worse, there's plenty of mosquitos flying around!
