We picked up another car from Melbourne, a brand new toyota corolla seca with 2km up on the clock - nice!  We hit the Great Ocean Road (GOR) and stopped at Bells Beach which is a famous surfing beach.  The scenery was really like home on a good day actually so it was pretty nice - at times you could have been in Kerry on the Slea Head Drive!  We stopped at Split Point Lighthouse which was used in Round the Twist (we both used to watch that when we were young - loved it!).  We passed through the GOR wooden archway and the road started to twist and turn by the coast - it was lovely.  We stayed in Apollo Bay for the night in a 4 bed dorm which we had to ourselves so it was great.  So clean and a lovely commen area and kitchen so we were happy out watching 2 and half men (great show!).

Next day we continured on the road to Lorne which is a lovely town by the sea.  We got to the 12 apostles and they are impressive - I didn't really expect them to be.  I could go into how they were formed but I think Ror took a pic of that so it explains it all - I should have been a geologist, I find these things so interesting.  We hung around there for a while where you can view them from different platforms.  After that we stopped at a gorge which has a beautiful sheltered beach.  From there we stopped in Port Campell for lunch and drove on a bit to view some more rock formations called The Arch, London Bridge and the Grotto.  They will all dissapear in time and there will be new rocks with enticing names to draw the tourists in I'm sure.  We said we would stay in Lorne that night but when we got there there were no hostels free and the motels were too dear so we drove onto Geelong which turns out didn't have a hostel open so we were on the net trying to find something we could afford but nothing was happening for us.  We went to Mc Donalds for dinner and we resigned to the fact that our last night in Oz might be spent in the car but just before reception closed at a motel we found one for a reasonable price so we were really haunted!

Check out time the next day was 12 which was perfect for us so we had a lie in and went for a jog - it was tough in the heat but I have upped it to 2.5km.  Major aim is to be able to run 4km non stop by time I get home so not doing too bad for someone who really hasn't run since my east cork sports career in primary school!  We left around 11.30 for Melbourne airport and handed back the car (christened Alfie after the legend in Home and Away) and said goodbye to Australia..for now anyway.  We will be back for Christmas and New year but now our Asian adventure is about to start.
