Weather cleared up this afternoon so we got a bus into Centro which was hopping.  Still feel really safe here which is great.  We got the streetcar from the Centro to Santa Teresa.  While waiting for it we were talking to a British couple but yer man was originally from Carrigaline..small world!  Anyway we got up to Santa Teresa which is an area situated on a hill overlooking Rio - it is full of old mansions and is a real arty place now with some lovely little craft shops.  We had lunch there is a cute little cafe and strolled around for a little bit.  Since it was such a nice day we decided we should go up to see Christ the Redeemer so we got a taxi to the cog train.  14 euro got us the train up the hill to see the statue overlooking Rio.  The views from the top were amazing - we could see the Maracana Stadium, the beaches, Sugar Loaf Mountain - the whole of Rio.  We got some great pictures up there lording it over Rio!

The Golden Arches beckoned for dinner...it had to happen sooner or later!!  We are shattered now again tonight so early to bed.
