Where I stayed
Woke up to the fresh mountain air, and enjoyed breakfast in a medieval dining room. Absolutely gorgeous. Drove to San Gigmignano approx one hour with breathtaking vistas, along a winding hillside road with "gogles paysan" aka Tom at the helm! The town was a medieval gem, with walls and thirteen towers fortifying it against invaders. We enjoyed touring, shopping and eating at a restaurant with a spectacular view overlooking vineyards/sheep/olive trees!!! Finished the day wine tasting, met a wedding party of young California girls. The bride to be was classical valley girl/airhead and the wedding is to be held at a castle/vineyard. Gogles paysan aka Tom was ripping around a corner when we almost blindsided the Californians who had taken a wrong turn and were stuck trying to turn around blocking both lanes which have to accomodate vehicles, cyclists, runners, and hikers. A narrow escape but we arrived safely to enjoy a happy hour in the gardens of our monastery. Had wild boar salami/prosciutto/aged cheeses and wine. Dinner was excellent as usual and its bedtime.
