Suite Novotel: We stayed in Novotel in Berlin. it was adequate and comfortable.
@ the hotel we found planned out our to do list in Berlin and decided to first take a walking tour which lasts about 5 hrs. to us it was the time well spent.
Original Berlin Walks: Walking tours and decided to take one. the company we went with is Original Berlin walks. we were very fortunate to have had Finn Ballaro as our tour guide. Finn was fantastic and we learnt a lot from him. the whole tour was about 41/2 hrs and worth every minute. If you ever decide to take this tour make sure you ask for Finn Ballaro: http://www.berlinwalks.com/
Olympic Stadium: We were all excited about seeing the Olympic stadium which was used in the summer 1936 Olympics. Unfortunately we did not get to go in as the FIFA women's soccer was taking place the next day. The stadium was closed off to the public.
Topography of Terror: Is free to enter and is an excellent dipction of the rise and fall of the Nazi Power in Germany. It is a little too much for children. The museum is by the well preserved section of the Berlin wall.
Holocaust Memorial:
Museum Island: we got to go to only two museums on Museum Island:
Neues Museum: After this museum was badly damaged in World War two it has been restored and is open to the public. The Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, the Museum of Prehistory and Early History are worth the time spent. The children particularly enjoyed the Nefertiti exhibit.
Paragon Museum: This museum is breath taking! One can spend a whole day engrossed in all that the museum has to offer! You can gaze at the master piece collection of the Frieze depicting the war between Gods and Giants. The roman architecture on display is fantastic! The Museum also has the world famous ISHTAR GATE of the Babylon empire from the 6th BC. Bright blue glazed tiles were used to make this Gate. We were also fortunate to see Islamic art exhibit
Farmers/Art Market: in the museum Island area. we were fortunate enough to go to this market. we ended up buying some Souvenirs and having our lunch. once again it was time well spent!
Trains/ Buses: the bus and train systems are very friendly and easy to use. reading in Germna can be a little intimidating but.............. worth the effort.
In all we had a fabulous time in Berlin! Kiran actually wants to go back to cover the postdam area http://www.berlinwalks.com/tours_potsdam.html. may be next time for me and the kids!
