Where I stayed
That night we headed to the “footy” game and the girl from Holland and Amanda (Sweden) came with us
On Saturday we wondered around the Victoria Square market that is open 5 days a week. It is MASSIVE! And sells everything. Oh, they also wear a lot of e fluorescent colours here. At the market I even saw fluorescent coloured wool socks that I thought about getting my brother as he would have appreciated them. Sorry Landan, no room in the bag right now! We then flew into Sydney later in the afternoon. We didn’t have a hostel booked there so when we showed up at the airport, we went to the hostel board and called the various ones to see who would pick us up for free (as a transfer fee into the city is about $14 a person). While Candice was on the phone, a German guy, Felix, was standing there looking to book a hostel too. So I told him we’d found one with transfers for free so he said he’d come too
The hostel turned out to be good and on the Saturday night, we went to this bar that gave us 2 free drinks and a free dinner with the purchase of a drink. The place was BUMPING! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bar at that much capacity. We met some Auzzie’s who were there for their cousin’s 18th birthday and we had a riot with them.
We went to Bondi Beach for Mother’s Day. It was very pretty and just chilled out on the beach. At night, we wondered down to the Sydney Harbour and it is probably one of my favourite scenes I’ve ever seen. The Sydney Opera house all lit up is just amazing. That’s when it hit me I was in Australia
We were using the free WIFI in McDonald’s (yes, they have classy McDonald’s here!) when our friend Kyle came online who was staying at a hostel down the street. We were going to meet up with him later in the week and he wondered over and is now coming with us to Hayden’s in Dapto. We are on the train there, which is about 2 hours south of Sydney.
Things have been great. We’re finally catching onto where you should walk on the sidewalk and when you cross the street, you look the opposite ways that we’ve always known. Driving does look a bit confusing. We also booked a “tour package” for the next few weeks. So look forward to camping, the Blue Mountains, Jim’s Adventure Tours in Nimbin, sea kayaking with dolphins, a bush camping adventure, Fraser Island 4x4 adventure, sailing in the Whitsunday’s & sky diving. I promise not to disappoint! I hope everything is well in Canada! The weather here has been quite nice too –it’s nice that it is off season as we’re getting good discounts on things. So long!
