Hey there, I'm still on break during day 2 of 5 at the NY State Fair here in Syracuse and chilling in one of the nicest hotels that we've stayed at thus far. They've got a super nice staff along with internet that actually works, free printing and faxes, and best of all, a huge breakfast bar with stuff that I actually can and will eat, plus all the tea and coffee I can drink a quick two flights of stairs down. Cush, I tell ya =). As far as where we're setup, I was hoping that since we're in a relatively big city and at a "State Fair" instead of a county fair, that somehow the venue was going to be not so cow and tractor-y. (Haha, did I mention that our tent in Hunterdon was right next to the Goat Barn? Goats-polar bears-goats-the arctic-- SUUURE =P) Alas, my wishes were not granted! It's kinda like what we're used to but on a scale, say, ten times bigger! I have never seen a parking lot that big nor that many people EVERYWHERE. In fact, it's like its own little city over at the fairgrounds--aka: pure insanity! We pulled a 14 hour day yesterday starting in NJ at 8am for a radio interview that fell through until 10pm when we closed up shop at the fair. We did manage to squeeze in a little power nap after the drive but still were zombies incarnate at our table. (Fortunately, we were still able to laugh about it as we autopiloted home =P). One guy kept debating with me near closing time about utilizing resources and good stewardship of the environment, and I think I sounded like a complete idiot as I tried to be convincing at 10% awakeness =P, haha. Oh man, will I sleep well after the 20th. =)
That said, I can't believe that tomorrow we will be rolling into our 7th week of the campaign. We have one last circuit through CT, NH, and ME followed by four days in PA and then back to DC on the 15th. Are we really 2/3 done with this trip? It's so wierd recently having to think about what's next since I've been so focused on the present day to day and have been pushing away any real thought about the future as something way too far out there. It's been such an amazing ride, with all the trials and tribulations that this roadtrip has thrown my way-- I can't believe the end is on the horizon. I'm not so big on finding a job right after (as if that was a surprise to anyone) but I guess if the right opportunity came up I could do it, right? I also don't feel that anxious to go home though I have no idea where exactly I will go from here. I know that I want to stick around to see the leaves change colors and to be continually exploring. Just the other day, while on a run through a little surburban housing development I found myself suddenly out in the middle of nowhere with just the hay rolls and open sky. I felt so excited and at peace at the same time as I discovered this new place. Things seem so different! Anyways, I'm sure post-trip plans will fall into place and for now, we're finalizing our venues for the last weeks on the road and gearing up for the Arctic Refuge Action rally on 9/20 on Capitol Hill. Also, the GreenFest will be in DC 9/24 and 9/25--if anyone will be in the area, it would be AWESOME to meet up for a nice little dose of crunchiness. =)
Mkay, off for a quick nap and run before my turn at the table. Hope everyone is doing well and I'm thinking about you! -Shannon =)
