Man, it's been a while since my last post! We spent last Thursday through Sunday at the Colts Neck Country Fair, had a nice 2day breather at the beach and then went to the Hunterdon County Fair for another round of rural festivities. I was definitely thankful for the break in between since I'm all fair-ed out. You know things are sad when the healthiest thing you can find to eat are the french fries--they're 'Fried in 100% Vegetable Oil'! I have never seen so many types of food that they've managed to dunk in hot grease before piling high onto quickly soaked through paper plates. EW. Needless to say, I have yet to buy anything 'edible' at the five fairs that we've been to. I must say though, the fireworks are a nice treat, despite scaring the bejesus out of the little ones. =P
In Colts Neck, I wandered away from the fairgrounds during my break for a quick run and the scene was so surreal. There was this great misty cover all around and surrounding the fair (with ferris wheel and all) it was illuminated by all the gawdy flourescent lights whereas everywhere else (including where I found a little jogging path) was dark and silvery from the moon. Great photo op-- I totally wish I had brought my slr for the shot.
We went to the coast for our day and a half off and to set up on the boardwalk for an evening event. I discovered what happens when you go to one of Jersey's 'public' beaches (see pics--it actually got more packed as the day progressed if you can believe it). Yikes! Plus you have to pay to go on the sand AND the lifeguards are beach nazis-- you're only allowed to swim right in front of their little stands. BIZARRO.
Things with Rebecca continue to be really hit or miss and Wednesday night was definitely a miss. I ended up 'on a walk' with tears welling in my eyes from pure frustration and she happened to call me just as I was going back to the table to get a phone number. I think she could hear my emotion when I started explaining cuz she definitely backed off. We both agree that being tired AND around each other all the time is definitely not a winning combo. It's good that for the most part, we can talk over stuff at least.
Oh, and I also got to go to the cute two little towns of New Hope, PA and Lambertville, NJ which straddle a river and stateline for a nice relaxing break during my off shift in Flemington. It was so nice to chill on the banks of the river and have a chance to catch up with friends. I got news from Minh Huyen-- she's moving to NYC sometime in September and was like, "Dude, you coming with?" WHA! Haha, methinks I will be making some mildy big decisions soon...!
