Where I stayed
We were awakened rather uncermoniously by a rooster outside our window...right outside our window! It wasn't too bad, it was already 7:00 a.m.
After another great breakfast we packed up Bessie and drove north out of Kenmare towards Killarney on our way to Ennis. This route took us through the Killarney National Forest and the most spectacular scenery to date. We drove through Moll's Gap and stopped at Ladies' View - named so because this is where Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting like to stop for the scenery. They had great taste! We also pulled of the side of the road and walked down a path to overlook the Long Range River. It was so peaceful, quiet and still - a really special spot in my memories.
We drove on past Tralee and went on to Tarbert where we took the car ferry across the lower Shannon.
We stopped in Kilrush for lunch and a walk down to the marina. There was a circus in town and we saw the tent and someone dressed as Barney!
All went well until we drove into Ennis - right into the heart of town complete with one way crowded streets and no signs! After a few wrong turns we found a gas station and got directions to Newpark House.
Newpark House looks like a mini castle. It's over 300 years old and has been in the same family since 1903. Beautiful inside and out and - it's got a library full of geneaology books! I was in heaven. We walked back to town to look around and have dinner. And we bought chocolate at a place called - wait for it- Chocolate! Quite yummy and very much appreciated at the time!
