On Friday night, after Jazzfest, we drove to Mobile, Alabama to visit Shane's old roommate, Mike Itaya.
On Saturday morning we took a short drive to Mississippi, and took an airboat tour in a swamp, and saw some pretty big alligators.  The alligators were amazing to watch.  They just sit there, completely still, like a rock, calmer than hindu cows.  But when they move, they're quick, although (thankfully) we didn't see any of them in full speed attack mode.  They are very good swimmers too.  The females were 8-9 feet long, and the males were 13-15 feet long!  When we got off the airboat, they had a cage with baby alligators, and we each got to hold one.
Later, we drove back to Mobile, and had some great southern bar-b-que.  It was the best bar-b-que we've ever had, for sure.  That night we watched the Celtics lose game 1 so the Cavs, but it's ok, they'll pull it together!
The next morning, before we hit the road, we got some good authentic gulf seafood.  Just in time too, because everyone on the gulf coast is saying the seafood down there won't be the same for years to come due to the oil spill.  On the way to the seafood place, we encountered an interesting highway, which, at high tide, comes dangerously close to the water.  It was windy that day, so the water was blowing onto the highway!
