Where I stayed
Today we drove from Flagstaff to Durango, CO. On the we we stopped at Meteor Crater, the first proven and best preserved meteorite crater in the world. We took a guided rim tour, and walked along the edge of the crater, and learned that all the Apollo astronauts trained at this very crater for moon missions. The reason is that when the meteorite hit, it flipped the rock and sediment upside down, so the rocks and minerals they would normally have to drill for are actually at the top of the crater. Astronauts looked for these types of craters on the moon.
After that we drove through Petrified Forest National Park. It's not actually a forest, it's still the desert. There are just a lot of crystals and petrified trees. Although we couldn't figure out what they were so afraid of.
We also tried to go to the four corners, but it was closed. We did drive about 50 feet into New Mexico, so we're counting that as one of the states we've been through on the trip (we're up to twenty states, and two countries so far).
Tomorrow we'll drive to our friend Trevor's house in Nederland, CO, and after that we meet up with Suzy in Vail!
