Last night was great... my club down the road had a flashback night and played mostly music from the 80s. Makes for a great atmosphere. Cant believe how popular our Kylie is... her music has been played everywhere Ive been. The club pulsated with phenomenal dancing... the locals sure do know how to party. Im really enjoying the black Brazillians here... very friendly, even though they dont understand a word Im saying, they are good fun. The language barrier is really P****** me off now because I would be able to meet so many more local people if I could speak to them. This is a major reason for me wanting to get back to Australia now... shame. Being able to order a pizza without body language is starting to appeal to me, and increasing my appetite for home. At least in South East Asia, I came across so many more local English speakers. If China adopts English in all its schools, as it plans to do, this country will also become tourist friendly in the years to come. If I come back to South America (which is likely), I will only contemplate coming back if I have Spanish under my belt... I wouldnt bother otherwise.

Even though Ive been in Rio for a week, I havent done anything touristy. Ive set myself a goal to do some of the sights this week and post some photos of this beautiful city. I met Nebeu, owner of the apartment, last night who has suggested a few things both in and out of the city. Other locals are suggesting that I go to Macana to see a soccer match as well as a local Samba school rehearsal for Carnaval... but I wont do these things alone. Well see how things go over the next 2 weeks. I may go and check out Christ Redeemer tomorrow... Ill try to get up at a respectable hour (and hope for a clear day):) Im starting to think that I should of stayed in a hostel so I could meet more locals and backpackers... next time. Staying in an apartment is starting to bore me... shame that I had to pay upfront because Id be off to Mellow Yellow in a flash (highly recommended hostel here). All of these things I would of done differently if repeating this trip. I think staying in hotels and apartments is ok for a short duration of time if travelling alone... but hostels are the best and tested way to meet other travellers and break down the boredom (and occasional loneliness) of travelling alone. Im kind of glad Ive got home lurking just around the corner... Im ready for it now and makes having my own extended space here in Rio bearable. Also glad I have a hostel in Melbourne! To think that Im hanging out for another hostel is absurd!
