Today, I observed how dangerous travelling in South America can be with our group driving past a bus crash scene on the Andean mountains. A busī front wheels were overhanging the side of the mountain whilst the other busī front end was totally wiped away... apparently a front on bus collision with 6 fatalities, no foreigners (thank god, I would of hated this to have been reported on Australian TV with Australian fatalities). To say the least, it wasnīt our bus and Iīm still ok engaging in what I love to do.
We drove for 6 hours back to Arequipa. A long, hard day, it is good to be back in Arequipa. Last night, a HUGE surprise... Gabrielle was at the exact same hotel as me in the Colca Canyon. Unfortunately, I had to leave so didnīt have the chance to catch up with her properly but do hope to do so somewhere else in South America. Truly, a small world! A pleasant surprise.
We fly to Cusco tomorrow... which is sure to be a highlight of the trip. Cusco has rave reviews... but I must admit that Iīm kind of nervous about doing the 2 night Lares Trail to Machu Pichu. Machu Pichu is the MAIN reason for coming to this continent so I will be bitterly disappointed if I donīt make it. Anyway, will take step by step.
