North Ireland definitely rates up there as being better than the rest of Ireland, in so many ways. I had a great night out and found it easy to meet quite a few locals... love it when they go out of there way to meet you. My accent must really stand out. After a few words, the locals are quick to ask 'Are you Australian?'. One of the bartenders I met was Australian (Sydney)... moved here for work. I wouldn't want to live or work here... just doesn't do it for me. The nightlife is unique but enjoyable... picture music from the 70s with a techno/dance beat added to it as well as all the other current stuff. What really stood out was how happy the people seemed to be... smiles everywhere. A great atmosphere at both pubs/clubs I went to.

The scenery of Northern Ireland was superb... did a rope walk over the sea (Carricke) which was quite unique. Walking to the island off the coast gave an amazing view of the coast.

Even though the strife in Northern Ireland has come to an end (cease fire signed in 1994), the locals still seem to think that the trouble is still brewing. One protestant guy I met referred to the Catholics as being 'the other sort' but was adamant that he gets on with them... some of his friends are Catholic. I didn't believe him as he pulled a face when talking about them. In some ways I'm glad that I'm open to it all and don't really get into it... just curious as to get their perspective like I was with Buddhism in Thailand. The signs of the past are evident in Belfast with fortified police stations, slogans on city walls etc. Not the most attractive city I've been to!

I'm hanging out to get out of Ireland now... I think I've seen enough... and I've definitely spent enough:) This country is a rip off, especially for Aussies with our Aussie dollar. Don't know how the locals survive.
