We left South Dakota and the efficient machinery of Custer State Park on Tuesday. Drove up to Devil's Tower and Sundance. Sorry, no Rob Redford sightings (Mallory was disappointed). Then it was southwesterly through the Big Horn Mountains, then down through a maze of desert highways and sleepy little towns. Evidently, these sleepy little towns are not so sleepy. All hotels/motels/ and other types of accommodation were booked. Yes, that's right, I was splurging on indoor accommodation. Camping in the desert does not appeal to me. Anyways, finally found a motel in Dubois. Nice little establishment (the Chinook Lodge). Next morning, we were taking a pic in front of the lodge for memory's sake and I threw out my back (horsing around, not taking a picture). Makes for a pleasant ride, rest assured.
So now it is time for more outdoor adventure. there is a canoe trip, hiking trip, and Yellowstone in the near future.
Mallory: Marvin forgot to mention the really, really good dinner I made Friday night. Shrimp scampi with gouda and bell pepper pasta. We're roughing it, eh? Anyway, Jackson has been nice, and everything in between. Although I found out last night, in a most unpleasant manner, I get altitude sickness. I woke up around 2am with a horrendous throbbing headache. Things are better now, with the help of H2O and few doses of advil, but my head still feels like I have a cold without the cold. Today we are canoing, and most likely, swimming as it is scorching hot. We will post more pictures soon...
