Getting back to work after the holiday break was a bit difficult but we were lucky to leave again the first weekend! We went down to Canberra for the anuual SummerNats hot rod car show. We drove down on Friday night and slept in the car park at Australia National University right in Canberra. We spent Saturday sightseeing, beginning with a tour of New Parliament then Old Parliament Building, the National Archives (although the Australian Constitution was not on display), then the War Memorial where we witnessed a piper perform Last Post. Then we headed up to Telstra Tower to watch the sun set over the city. We slept that night down by the water near the International Flag display (under the Canadian flag)!
Sunday we headed to SummerNats and admired the suped-up cars and trucks. We rounded off the day watching the finals of the burnout competition! Very interesting...and dangerous since the more keen of the drivers put out so much smoke you could hardly see the car! (Or the bits of rubber tires flying at the spectators...we were lucky and didn't get hit!)
