Boy it is hot today and after trying to squash everything back into my rucksack I swear that things are expanding in the heat.  I only bought a few t-shirts and a few trinkets, honest gov.  Called all the interested parties from the internet cafe as not sure about access in Tulum.  Even managed a skype chat with my Betty who was multiple time zones away from me in Bangalore, India.  Back down there trying to save the world but the usual issues.  Anyhow not my problem any more :-)

Took the ferry to Playa del Carmen and a collective or shared taxi to Tulum.  It was more of a minibus than a taxi as it was packed full of hard working Mexicans for that authentic feel.  The Collectivos are ace as people hop in and out along the predefined route.  Tulum is interesting as it breaks into two distinct areas.  The ruins-beach area and the town area.  Both have advantages and disadvantages for staying in each but Iīve gone for he town option to be closer to the bus terminal and dive school.

Hotel Villa Matise is clean and simple but without A/C.  This is the first time since arriving that all Iīve had to cool myself is a fan.  It is going to be interesting. The room is painted all white which adds to the clean image.  the town itself has everything that you could need with ATMīs, bus terminal, supermarket, etc.  Delighted I found 2 internet cafes very close to the hotel.  Next order of business as to get some cash as most places prefer pesos/dollar to our plastic friend.

Stop a HSBC and head for that meanwhile wondering how different life could have been if they were using BankFusion now. Ah well we tried.  As I head in a guy walks out past me and holds the door and as I go to the machine the bleedin thing is beeping at me. Hu?  Turns out that the guy before me had left his card in the machine and was still logged in.  Not willing to take advantage to pay for my expensive holidays I grab the card and run out to try and find him.  Now to be honest I wasnīt holding out much hope as I didnīt really look at him as we passed.  Spotting a guy getting into a car that I think might be him I head over.  Manuel? Si? and once I got him to verify his surname he was thanking me like I had just given him a million dollars.  maybe I had!

My weird interactions didnīt end there as while I was in the internet cafe that night a guy walks in but has no Spanish and is looking for help.  He claimed to be a Baptist pastor from Chicago on holidays with his family but their luggage had got misplaced.  Of course it contained all his credit cards, wife's diabetic medication, etc.  Could I help a brother... an no.  Thinking it was a scam I said that I too was low on funds and couldnīt help.  Not very Christian of me now was it.

Board out of my tree this evening so decide to try and get to bed early for the bus journey the following morning but finding it hard to settle with the heat.  Right Iīve decided only AC room now on!
