OK so things didn't exactly start according to the well sculpted master plan.  How many times have I been sitting in Dublin airport at some ungodly hour wondering about the extra few valuable minutes i could have got in the scratcher.  This time I was going to squeeze out those valuable minutes in the scratcher but I guess that I failed to account for Dublin Airport Authority having the road infrastructure in rag order at 5:30am.  To make one of my long stories short and following some agreed queue jumping i just managed to make my aer lingus flight to Frankfurt.  Why in the name of all that is holy was I flying 2 hours to Frankfurt only to turn around in a few hours and fly back over the emerald isle again, cost pure and simple but my uber efficient German airline captain didn´t have to remind me of it as we fly bye.  The only worry I had on my flight to Frankfurt was did my luggage manage to make it¿ The last thing that I wanted was my luggage playing catchup all over Central America.  Well god bless the ground staff in Dublin cos there it was the first bag off.

The flight to Havana was rather uneventful except that my rehearsed 10 words of Spanish, that was going to see me thorough my 2 month trip, had to be squashed back into the dark corners of my mind as I tried to dig up my even rarer list of German words.  Somehow the German that I learned in Warlord and other such comics just wasn´t going to cut the mustard here.  11 hours of this and there is only so much one can do at 35,000feet ... well that is legal anyhow.

Havana airport was grand and the ATM even gave me money!!!  Everyone was nice and smiling, could it really be that everyone was like that¿  I could count on one hand the amount of times that US customs and Immigration officers had smiled at me and welcomed me to their country.  Maybe Castro got it right!

On to the guest house or Casa Particular to you and me.  Malayne and Otto greeted me like family and after a sufficient amount of polite conversation I figured it was time for bed.  Lying there watching the fan going round I just couldn´t believe that this was the end of the first day of my 2 month adventure.

Eh gringo - good to hear that your adventure has kicked off - Mojitos but no Cuban Cigars eh ?! Careful buddy - the last time i heard of someone watching the fan spin around in an exotic location ended up with him chasing a nasty Colonel Walter Kurtz (aka Marlon Brando) through the jungle ! So you be careful out there !!
On another note Seamus, and you are not going to believe this, the Trigger Fish are here !!! Just back today from Scubadivewest and there are 2 triggers in the House Reef -check Scubadive's blog !! These guys seem friendly but they could be just lulling us Irish into the false you know what thingy ....

Hola amigo, Como esta? My recollection of a fan turning involved blood and chickens but again Angel Heart was a messed up movie! Have a good trip and blog often! From the opposite side of the world, adios!
