It's been a while since I've updated my status. Life in Vancouver has finally settled down into a state of 'normality'. During the week I get up to go to work on what must be one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. Although, as the McCain add would say 'the rains are here!'. Nearly every day without fail I leave home with my brolly and venture out into some kind of precipitation or mist.

I've met some great friends over here which I am so thankful for. The sense of community of my hostel has made the time much more enjoyable. I am truly lucky to have met so many great people who have come from all different walks of life.

The culture is very similar to Australia, however it's the subtle differences and the accents that remind me that I'm in a new place. For a start, when I write a letter the dates and the month comes before the day. That has taken a little getting used to! Also, some of the words such as 'Authorization' take the American spelling. I'm often speaking on the phone to people who understand limited English and find that my Australian accent throws them right off. I had to spell my name four times for one lady before whe finally understood.

The morning cofee has been a sticking point for me. It's what I look forward to in my work day.. The first day I tried the office's fancy brewed coffee and vowed never to do it again! Melbourne has made me such a coffee snob. When I get home I can't wait to go to my favourite cafe and order a latte...  ahhh:-) We have a coffee shop in our complex called Blenz that makes the closest coffee to back home but it's quite pricey to have every day. They do have really good bagels nearby though...
