Salmon Arm Silverbacks Hockey

Tristan and I both wanted to see a hockey game while in Canada, however we had a limited amount of time fitting it around our tight schedule of places to see. Getting to a Major League game was not going to work for us, however Tristan had the clever idea of going to a country game. The game in Salmon Arm worked perfectly for us between our lengthy drive on the way back from Banff.

We made it just in time although we missed the very start & the National Anthem. The Salmon Arm Silverbacks were playing the Greater Vernon Team. Although it was only a minor league game I believe it had every bit as much passion any major league game. The pace was frenetic and the tempers were high. At one point at least half the players in both teams were laying into each other. Hockey sticks were forgotten in the heat of the moment and strewn all over the ice. At least one of the player was disqualified for the season and exited the ice with a display of rage.

It's exciting and electrifying to watch. Without knowing the rules, we could both see how fans could become hooked on the adrenaline of the game. Local teens had flocked to spectate the game. Girls done up with full make-up and perfectly straightened hair filled the aisles. They seemed to defy physics by wearing only skimpy cottons tees in the icy stadium. Perhaps their is method in their apparent madness though. Hockey attracts plenty of boys, that is if you can tear their attention away from the game. ;-)
