so sucre had ups and downs.  ups, shoe shine boy, meeting neil, dinner and drinks at locots, meeting the brazilians, karaoke, the sights from the top of the hill, lots of beautiful white buildings.  the downs.  all the bloody thieving.  arseholes.
anyway, we cheered ourselves up by checking into lush hotel for the night.  three person suite.  got take out pizza, watched telly and lounged.  great.  then me and amber came to Tarija - 15 hours on a bus.  this one did not leak which was good but bloody bumpy.  like a stoney dirt track to a farm or something but for 15 hours!  bounced around all over the shop.  bought sleeping tablets form farmacia.  they gave me diazepam 10mg.  10 tablets dirt cheap.  brilliant bolivia.  took half and was out for six hours straight apart from one loo stop in a fountain!
not only a bumpy ride but a lot of mountain driving, real edge of the mountain stuff, single carriage way.  the brakes sounded in trouble more than once.  sucre was at 3.6 km above sea level but must have reached 5km and now down again (took about 2 hours to get down mountain side earlier this morning)  scenery is amazing.  yesterday cactuses and red canyons and rolling hills and plateaus and farmland and indiginous farmers and this morning saw sun rise over mountain.  dark and blue in one direction and the other was this gorgeous sky of reds and oranges and yellows.  am totally dumbstruck by the scenery and land on these journeys.  cannot do justice with words - just sit there taking it all in for over an hour in silence while rest of bus sleeps but did have to wake amber to look at the sunrise and certain views down the mountains and through the valleys.  is mesmorising.  booked into hostel and then slept for a few hours (residual diazepam in system) then headed to main plaza for luch and bottle of red and watched world go by.  bare arms and flip flops.  not bad for dec 21st.  torrential downpour for about an hour (rainy season) but not cold.  neil is in la paz trying to get new passport but will fly to join us on weds, christmas eve.
