today neil, amber and myself were meant to catch a bus at 7am to travel to uyuni.  at about twenty to 7 we stopped at small cafe in the bus station to get some water and a sandwich and as neil was paying a man came over to me and amber and started chatting away and staring down behind us and at our feet and then he disappeared.  neil came back from paying (ten feet away) and his bag was gone.  someone must have stolen it whilst we were distracted by that robbing scum.  in his hand luggage he had his passport, money, credit and debit cards, camera, 9 weeks of travel photos and ipod.  he now has nothing.  we went to the police straight away and filed a report but very little was done in the way of investigation and he stands no chance of ever seeing his stuff again.  he phoned the british embassy in la paz (12 hour bus ride away) and has to go there to get new passport.  he said he had no money or means of getting any and they said he still needed to make his own way there as they could not help (are they recommending hitch hiking?) anyway, much time with police and phoning banks etc and sorting out cash for him and rethinking next few days travel plans.  (meanwhile our big luggage has left on the bus to uyuni as we only got robbed 10 mins before departure and went straight to police to tell them about the dodgy guy in hope it may be recovered).  bus company say they can get bags turned around 3 hours away at Potosi and should be back at terminal by 4pm.  we return at this time and there is our luggage.  unfortunately minus my sleeping bag (brand new before leaving for cold mountain sleeping.  not cheap by any means.  and so is ambers make up bag from top of her bag which has her jewellery in)  bags have only been in possession of the travel company but they deny any knowledge and say they do not have.  did we secure it properly?  did our friend neil have these things?  back to the police who take us to chat with another guy who is investigating (whatever that means).  we must return tomorrow to see if it turns up.  it will not as has quite clearly been robbed.  we have all been robbed today and are well and truely fed up with sucre and the dismissive nature of the bus station people.  bunch of stealing shits (excuse language).  we leave tomorrow.  neil to la paz for new passport and me and amber to potosi and then the following day to tarija for christmas.  neil will fly down to join us christmas eve and we can do salt fields trip afterwards.  bit change of plans but it should work.  tomorrow should be a better day.  we leave sucre so already it looks likely to improve.  sorry bout the long moan here, has just been very frustrating day.  will be chirpy again soon.  just hoping can buy snug as a bug in a rug sleeping bag in tarija
