Our friend Wang got married a few days ago. The wedding was great!!! It was exceedingly fancy!  When we arrived at the hotel…yea hotel the wedding party was there to greet us. Here they do not have weddings like we do in the States they do not really have a religious ceremony.  Instead they do have a ceremony but it's rather short.  It is not about the ceremony but the meal afterwards.  Furthermore, they do not have weddings in the afternoon and then have the wedding dinner.  Rather they have the wedding around 12pm and then provide a lunch. So we arrived at the hotel at 11:25 for the 11:30 wedding.   Wang and his wife-to-be we waiting outside and greeting their guest as I previously mentioned.  As soon as Wang saw he had his friend take us to a special table.  We ended up sitting by a bunch of guys who were dressed in what appeared to military garb… So here we were sitting next to big brother and then it turns out that big brother was really the band for the wedding.  As the band began to play a lady got up on stage and started singing a song.  Now I am unfortunately unable to tell you what she sang about or even a little of what she said as well my Chinese is rather limited still… I know I have been slacking on my Chinese learning.  But then the emcee for the wedding went up and began jabbering in away in Chinese.  While she was doing this Wang walked up and the lights dimmed.  Wang all of a sudden had a bouquet of red roses and a microphone.  Then the music stopped and Wang began to sing!! As he sang he approached a second alter in which his wife to be was seated.   He gave her the bouquet of roses and took her back to the stage where he had started.   He gave her a ring and has her gift to him she gave him a brand new Basketball.  Now, this was a perfect gift for Wang as he is a big basketball fan and loves the NBA.  After the exchange, he scooped up his wife and carried her out of the reception hall. When they returned Wang’s now wife was dressed in an elegant red dress and out of her white wedding dress.   While they were gone however, tremendous meal had begun.  They brought out plate and plate of different dishes.   I found out the minimum number of dishes was 16.  Now for this meal we had more than this amount by a fair share. Even more so, I must admit that this was the BEST meal I have had up to this point in China.  It was great we had things from duck to fish to veggies to tofu and fruit.  While people were eating Wang and his wife were going from table to table and have at least 1 shot with each table.   Now this shot isn’t like American shots it’s smaller but the liquor is much more potent and tastes awful. For those of you who have tried Everclear its taste is similar to that but with a hint of pineapple with the same burn.  For those of you who don’t drink Chinese liquor burns really bad.  It is simply horrible. Nevertheless our table wasn’t dinking so we luckily got to toast our friends with Pepsi while they drank their sickening brew.  We quickly told Wang we wanted a picture with him and his new family and so we ran out into the lobby and snapped some quick photos.  As a result we met Wang’s mom and dad.   After the pictures we went back and futilely tried to make a dent in what was left of our lunch.  At about 1 o’clock we had to leave as I had to finish packing for my trip to Weihai that I was leaving for in a two hours.
