We had a quick trip to Vegas after I finished my 1st grad school year!  The trip wasn't in honor of my finishing the school year (had it been in honor of me, I woulda picked a different locale)... the trip was due to the fact that a major business deal was coming to fruition.  The Mandalay Bay was going to debut The Lion King musical, due in much part to hours of hard work put in by Shaan.

Shaan had never been west of Chicago, sooooo clearly we had to go!

We got in to Vegas at night and checked in to the Mandalay Bay.  Man, I wanted to like this trip, but it was hard.  The first night we're walking around the strip and it's so hard not to get depressed by the tackyness, the wasteful gambling and spending, the undocumented immigrants (ok I'm making assumptions) spending hours trying to pass out Naked Lady flyers to passers-by, and all the sex Sex SEX! marketing.  And the smoking.  Just not my cup of tea.

We also walked around during the daytime, which was a little bit better--but HOT!  And the sunscreen we bought was spoiled and left funky residue on our skin.  We went inside the Venetian and took a "gondola ride" in the river.  That was cute :)

Sat night we dressed up for the premiere of Lion King Las Vegas!  We both sort of wore awkward/wrong clothes, so we had a funny time at intermission of running (running!) back to our hotel room to change.  There was lots of laughter together, and I treasured that moment of realizing that even in cranky weekends and fashion faux pas, we still have a lot of joy together.

The after-party was pretty damn cool.  Tipsy co-workers and incredibly vibrant views of the city.  It was at Mixx Las Vegas on the top floor of THEhotel by Mandalay, and guess who came?  Robin Leach.  Awesome!
