I arrived well in advance for my afternoon flight to Dulles, and sat in the atrium waiting and chatting. During that time, a group of soldiers in their fatigues queued upstairs for a chartered flight. Moments later, a few middle-aged women who work at the shops around the atrium announced their procession through the atrium. Everyone stood and applauded.
Although I do not support the war in Iraq, I had no mixed feelings about supporting this diverse group of people -- male and female, young and old, multi-racial. It was a powerful sight to see just before my own departure on a vastly different journey. Rarely do I feel that priviledged, although I realized that I should feel that way more often.
