From La Villa, Italy we left Daniele and Vicky to drive 3 hours northwest to St. Anton, Austria.  This is where Holly's parents first met in early 1969.  The story goes something like this:

Alex was spending some time in this ski town after his stint in Vietnam.  Marg was on a ski vacation to clear her brain after she broke up with a boyfriend.  Alex was in the Alber Boot Shop learning about the newest technological advancements in the custom leather ski boots with a technician when Marg walked in the door.  To Alex this was like the record player coming to a scratchy halt.  Their eyes crossed and six months later they were married.

We cruised the town to try to find the Alber Boot Shop and some of Alex's old hangouts.  Apparently the Alber Boot Shop no longer found the demand for custom leather ski boots.   It is now Alber Sports, which offers a full range of snow sport needs.  The shop is in the same location, but has since undergone a full remodel.  Alex's old watering hole used to be a restaurant, the "Bahnhof", attached to the train station.  Years ago the train station moved to the other side of the highway, outside of town.  Apparently this forced the restaurant out of business.  The building is still in great condition (It is now a historic landmark) and the tables in the restaurant are still in place.  The pension he used to stay at is still there only under a different name and owner.

We went out for a nice dinner that evening, where Holly had her first "weinerschnitzel" experience. After having had sauerkraut for the first time in La Villa (and liking it!!), she also had some dumplings with a big heaping of kraut on top. Yummy! For dessert we split a "Hot Love" sundae, to commemorate the meeting of Holly's parents in this town 38 years ago.
