We thought we would take advantage of the car we rented from our La Grave neighbor and finish the ski season off with a road trip.  So we loaded what Colin calls "the French 1000 euro ham sandwich" with our ski stuff and drove away from La Grave.

The first stop on our journey was Padova, Italy (pronounced "padua") where Daniele and Enrico grew up.  As I mentioned before in a previous blog, our borrowed little Peugeot, aka Kid Puggy, doesn't have a lot of power.  A trip that took Daniele and Enrico under five hours in the previous month, took us eight.  In those eight hours we passed four vehicles; a tractor, another Peugeot, and two bicycles.  But we got there and also got a good summary of all the possible hand gestures pissed off Italians make on the road.

We loved Padova.  It is a beautiful city less than an hour north of Venice.  That evening and the following day we walked the city with Daniele, Enrico, and their girlfriends Vicky and Barbara.  They showed us Italy's second oldest university (founded in the 1200's) and the world's second largest open square (Red Square being the largest).  Being first is overrated anyways.  We also saw the building where the revolution from Austria's rule was planned (it is now a hipster café) and numerous other of Padova's, what my brother Mark and Clarisse might call important buildings.

It should be noted that history was never my best subject in school.  So Daniele or Enrico please correct any facts that were conveniently modified.

Walking through the city was a great change of pace.  It reminded us that man made objects can provide great beauty too.  The warm weather got us excited about wearing shorts again.  We also were in the midst of wonderful company.
