After a 14 hour flight in an airbus and another 1 hour flight from Auckland, we finally arrived back in Wellington. (Andrew was particularly happy to be sitting on the plane next to the manager of the under 17 Canadian woman's football team, who were flying to NZ to compete in the under 17 Woman's World Cup).
It's a nice feeling being back home, although it does also feel strange. It was weird walking back into our house after being away for 6 1/2 weeks. At least our cats remembered us. As wonderful and amazing as our big trip was, there's no place like home.
Here's the final wrap up of our trip:
- Favourite places: Avignon, Assisi, Cortona and Camucia.
- Places I would like to see more of: San Gimignano and Cinque Terre.
- Most surreal moment: Seeing the Pope at The Vatican.
- Most jaw dropping moments: Seeing the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica.
- Friendliest places: Vancouver, Il Borgo in Camucia (grazie Rodolfo!) and of course Aunty Lucie's house!
- Most amazing scenery: Tuscan countryside, Austrian alps and Whistler.
- Best accommodation: Aunty Lucie's home.
- Good old times: Catching up with ex-pat friends (Nancy, Suzi, and Andrea & Tom) in the UK.
- What I will miss the most: The food and drink of each place we visited, the sound of church bells in Italy, the adventure of travelling on the trains from one place to the next, getting out of bed to do something new and different each day, and hanging out with Aunty Lucie.
- What I won't miss: Cigarette smoke in Europe, spitting in Italy, tube dust in London, doggy doodle on the pavement in France & Italy, long plane flights, and living out of a backpack.
- What I love about being back home: Sleeping in my own bed, our two cats and friends and family.
