great place friendly family run and the price is unbeatable 6 dollars a night for a big room, although no pool or free breakfast, and the rooms are simple enough guess it depends on how much of a princess you are personally i' just thrilled to have my own room.
Rafting was fun although the guilds didn't seem to know what they were doing and we sorta just drifted our way down the river as we slammed into walls rocks and trees sorta made it more fun then avoiding all the dangerous obstacles the highlight at the end was the 4m drop.
An odd thing was the naked villagers that we kept floating by who were washing themselves and froze in horror as 6 groups of 4 floated by taking photos of them naked....
An interesting thing about the trip was i was the only backpacker... perhaps its a sign of things to come as the world flattens out and previously have not countries come into there own in my group there was 3 ozzies 6 people from Iran 6 from china some Japaneses some people from Singapore and myself the lone north American.
Indonesian rules while rafting one of the Singaporean girls lost her paddle and when the guild went back to get it, a man had already taken it out of the water and claimed it was his and we were forced to leave it behind, in Indonesia possession truly is 9/10th of the law.
Later that afternoon i arrived back to kuta beach from rafting as a massive hindu festival was going on, and thousands of people were gathered partaking and watching all the same, i tried to snap some photos but i don't think it gives it justice, the interesting thing is the hindu new year is on the 26th this year and i found out this current festival has nothing to do with the new years as the hindu year only has 220 or so days the holiday floats and its actually incredibly lucky of me to have arrived as the both come together once in a life time.
the quiet day
So from what i understand on Hindu new years everything is super closed and everyone stays in there homes, i had it explained to me that on this day the bad gods come down to earth and look for somewhere to stay thus all movement is stopped and even the electricity is cut, so if your staying in a simple hotel room such as myself your bored out of your mind, thus i decided to take off tomorrow to the gilis islands which are supposed to be amazing, and they don't have the quiet day there.
Being the cheapy backpacker i am i took the 15 dollar 10 hour trip rather then the 2.5 hour fast boat, perhaps on the way back I'll break down :P
once again i gotta say the shopping in bali is amazing really good brands for super cheap from legit stores and even cheaper if you want the knock offs just amazing, I'd honestly return to bali just for the shopping alone!!
