MY NEW FAMILY IN COSTA RICA
In previous entries I have mentioned Doņa Zoraida. She is my neighbor and has been my hiking buddy for the last two months. Her family has really taken me in as one of their own and I have grown close to her daughter, sons, and two grandsons. After going with her pregnant daughter, Marcela, to the hospital a few times in San Jose and spending time with her boys, I was excited to receive a call when she went into labor.
I accompanied Doņa Zoraida and her father to the public Hospital in San Jose, where we were allowed to visit one by one. When it was my turn to visit, Marcela welcomed me with a smile and new baby, Noelia Raquel (don't you just love that name!) When the nurse asked who I was, Marcela announced I was the baby's only aunt (Marcela only has brothers). I felt all warm and fuzzy inside, as I fulfilled my gushing "aunt" role by taking tons and tons of pictures of baby Noelia Raquel.
