SECOND CHANCES...
My first impressions of San Jose over two months ago were not extremely favorable. The mountains and other gifts of nature that I love were no where to be seen, the architechture did not blow me away and the local concern over city crime was distracting.
Fast forward 9 weeks and I decided to give San Jose a second chance - and boy am I glad I did! The capital city's charm does not hit you over the face when you first approach it, but rather like an acquired taste, grows on you as you take a closer look. I decided to join a neighbor on a city tour and discovered beautiful hidden gems like local parks full of history, an understated cathedral not to be judged by its outsides, the first mall of Costa Rica, the elegant Teatro Nacional and much, much more!

Wow, the Mercado Central looks so different now. It's painted in a bright yellow and looks much more approachable :)
