MAKING FRIENDS FROM SAN ANTONIO
Dońa Zoraida, whom I talked about in the last entry, was really an amazing person to meet, because she knows everybody in the neighborhood - most of which are her family members! Not only has she introduced me to everybody, but she also invited me to her church. While at an event, I made so many friends, that it really feels like I've been in Costa Rica longer than just a few weeks. At this event, I met Lucy and Anya, from the neighboring town of San Antonio de Escazu. They invited me to their houses this weekend and I successfully navigated two bus transfers to arrive there on Saturday!

Lucy waited for me at the bus stop in the center of San Antonio. She gave me the option of a leisurely scenic hike to her house or a taxi. Obviously, I chose the hike - little did I know it would be 50 minutes of hills even steeper than the ones by my house!! I'm glad she downplayed the rigorous walk, because I can't say with certainty that I would have chosen it had I been well informed. It turned out to be a great workout!! I did arrive sweaty and tired, but it was worth it!

AGUA DULCE AT ANYA'S

After hanging out at Lucy's place for a bit, we picked up her adorable 8-year old daughter and headed to Anya's house for coffee and sandwiches. Since I don't drink coffee, Anya's daughter prepared some Agua Dulce for me, which turns out to be this delicious hot Costa Rican beverage made from sugar cane. YUM.

While at Anya's, she climbed an orange tree in her backyard (I was so impressed to find out later that she is in her late 50's!!) and loaded us with two full bags of the sweetest oranges ever. She also showcased a visiting frog, which freaked out her daughters, but delighted her grandkids!
