LO BARATO SALE CARO (THE CHEAP COMES OUT EXPENSIVE)
Before I describe the paradise I'm living in now, I must take a few minutes and share a revelation I had while staying at an extremely cheap hostal in San Jose. They advertise as a B&B, but at $15 a night, $20 with a private bathroom, you really can't expect much. I was referred to this place by my dad, who has a completely different travel style than me and likes to "rough it." I, on the other hand, realized on this trip that I am not a "roughing it" type of a chick. Since I grew up in the projects, I feel that I have more than put in my time in the "roughing it" category and will not purposefully sign up for any more!!

THE 600 METER CLIMB TO PERFECT VIEWS
The directions to my new apartment were very interesting. There were no street names, only landmarks: make a right at the supermarket, left at the church, pass the cementary, etc etc. and somehow, 25 minutes later, we actually made it! When I chose this place, I knew it was up on a hill, but I had no idea how steep that hill would be. Going up in the taxi, Carolina and I felt like we were on an amusement park ride, just ready to plummet at any second! As the car climbed, I wondered to myself, how in the world am I going to walk that steep hill and the rest of the 1-2 kms it will take me to get to the town, to do groceries?  I pushed that thought aside and jumped out of the car, onto safe ground as soon as we reached the top.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Nine months ago, I was traveling in Europe and had a vision of moving to another country for a few months to focus on my writing. Not to get too deep, but in this vision, I saw myself living a bit remote and with spectacular views to inspire me every day. At the time I had no idea what country this place was in, but I can safely say I found it in the little town of Piedades de Santa Ana.
