Another great experience at one of Italy's hidden treasures, Le Marche and more specifically Cossignano. The region is just east of Tuscany, on the Adriatic coast, surrounded by endless green hills, vineyards, sunflowers, and medieval little villages nested on hilltops. Needless to say every sunset was spectacular!! Ok, enough about the view...

Ruth, Steve and Charlie (the 4 year old son) were hosting us for a week (lovely British couple). At the same time Caitlin (a volunteer from Australia) and Ruth's brother with his family were also there, so quite a full house (which was great fun)! The kids are amazing (Charlie, Joe and Louie), and let's not forget the animal farm (2 cats, 8 kittens, 4 dogs, 4 chickens... I might have forgotten someone :-s)

So, our job for the week was to restore inner walls of a 500 year old ruin. We learned how to fill the gaps in the wall using a lime and sand mixture. It was great fun and very rewarding. By far the best thing we've learnt on our trip so far!

Ruth and Steve buy old ruins and restore them themselves. Their creations are amazing and awesome. We are very grateful to have learned a few tricks from them!

The week we spent in Le Marche really was the best we've had so far...

We are now in Modica (Sicily) enjoying a wonderful week with Sophie's aunt, Sylvie, and her partner, Luca.
A blog entry on Sicily will shortly follow!
