I was invited to serve with the Peace Corps in Ukraine way back in October.  They didn't give me much specific information on how I will spend my time in Ukraine, so pretty much I am about to travel into the unknown!  This is the letter I received;

          "Welcome to Peace Corps Ukraine's Youth Development Project.  The Youth Development Project has been created at the request of the Ukrainian Government to address the growing gap between the development levels of young people in urban centers and those in rural and otherwise disadvantaged areas. The process of transition in Ukraine has presented challenges, opportunities and new roles, with varying degrees of exposure, for the youth of Ukraine.  Children in villages and other economically depressed party's of the country risk falling behind in acquiring the skills and knowledge that they will need to succeed.  In addition, a poorly developed infrastructure and a lack of gainful employment among youth contributes to alcoholism, smoking, drug abuse and the spread of HIV/AIDS.

You will be placed at a village secondary school or technical colleges and cooperate with local partner organizations.  Your work responsibilities will include teaching classes on youth development-related topics, organizing extracurricular activities and conducting community projects aimed at preventing substance abuse and the spread of HIV, promoting a healthy lifestyle, developing IT and basic business skills, leadership and environmental awareness.  You will also work on organizing summer camps promoting active citizenry, initiating journalism programs, implementing mentoring programs for orphans and disadvantaged youth and conducting educational seminars for teachers.

All the while you will be sharing your American culture, by asking questions, be seeing opportunities where others might see only problems and be welcoming change and innovation.  You may not always hear thank you for going beyond your limits but everyone, whose life you touch, will appreciate your time and dedication to Ukraine and its people.

Peace Corps/ Ukraine is eagerly anticipating that together we will better prepare local youths for bright futures in the new Ukraine."

So in a nut shell, thats it!
