I went to Siem Reap to visit nearby Angkor Wat. I was pleasantly surprised to find a "city within a city". Not a big area but enough establishments for all my evening dining and entertainment for a few days.

Eat:
This area is next to the old market, VERY nice and clean u can't tell it's Cambodia. There were many restaurants and bars with table cloths, napkins and uniformed waiters. I like the back alley where the restaurants tiled the floor and set tables outside. Dinner entree starting at US$3, a  cocktail $2 and draft beer $1. At this point the minimun wage in Cambodia is US$50, per month.

Oh yeah I found Amok fish there, my favorite Cambodian dish.

Outside of the area, unfortunately, was just dust covered.

Sleep:
There were hotels and guest houses for every budget in Siem Reap.

Transportation:
Tuk tuks were conveniently everywhere.

Thai Airways has the monopoly on the Bangkok-Siem Reap route because they funded the construction of Siem Reap airport. The road to Siem Reap from Bangkok is in poor condition, some said it is deliberate, and full of scam artists. I flew into Phnom Penh and took a bus to Siem Reap. This worked out fine for me. The road was in good condition but the suicidal drivers in Cambodia are definitely not for the faint-hearted..
