When i was on Samui Island I went on a snorkeling trip to Koh Tao on Seatran Discovery boat.

Early morning at 7am the minivan picked me up at the hotel and took me to the pier to get on the boat. Breakfast was coffee and croissant served on the boat. The boat departed at 8 am.

The boat stopped by at Ko Pangan and Ko Tau piers to pick up and unload passengers, before taking us to Ko Nanyuang, a tiny island right next to Ko Tau, and anchored there. Smaller boats fetched us to the beach where we can snorkel. The snorkeling gear was provided.

It was 11 am by the time i got into the water. The site was picture perfect but it was more like a swim then snorkeling. Not much to see under water. Some fish and dead coral pieces.

By 12.30 pm we were back on the boat for buffet lunch. The Italian/Thai food served was very good. While having lunch the boat took off and anchored at Mango Bay, at the N side of Ko Tau, where the water was relatively deeper.  After i got over the after meal laziness, i got into the water and snorkeled around the boat. Again, some fish and dead coral pieces.

The high light was a few of us jumping off from the upper deck of the boat with the crowd cheering.

The boat headed back at 2.30 pm. Minivan delivered me to the hotel after 5pm.

Unless I charter a boat to a virgin location, where i can snorkel to see colorful live corals, that was all I could expect from a snorkeling group trip.
