Hello or Ni Hai,

the past week has been a bit hectic. We left Hanoi and headed to Halong Bay which is pretty spectacular. I'm really going to have to improve my vocabulary and learn more words to descibe stuff.

Halong Bay is full on little Limestone islands ( about 1000) all jutting out of the sea.
really serene just sailing about soaking up the scenery.

After this we headed up to Lang Son (town which is near the chinese border) for the evening. Bit of a shit hole but serves the purpose of being near the border.
Then it was into China.

Huashan was our first stop which is in the Ningming County. The first thing I've noticed about China is everything is done bigger. A small town contains 1 million folk. There are over 660 towns with more than 1 million folk in them. The second thing I've noticed is that I'm a tourist attraction maself as people here rarely see forgeiners let alone coloured ones!! In Huashan (apparantly pronounced Hwa Shaan) but ma accent makes everything sound like I'm swearing. We went to see some murals which historians don't really know who did them or why. Archeologists beleive they were done by the the Louyue people during the East han period (A.D. 25-220) making them ancient. Still doesn't stop them looking like a two year old drew them! Aye I appreciate culture. Oh yeah the other special thing about them is that they are halfway up the side of a cliff face. I'll gett piccys up soon.

Beer I've only tried one type of beer so far (LIQ) I think its called, that's what was on the label and its pretty good. Bottles are 640ml and cost 25p truly outstanding!!

Anyway back to China. Food is fantastic, best thing I've had so far is Eggplant with Garlic. Sounds bad is actually good. They use squat toilets here like the rest of Asia so at least ma legs are getting a good workout!!!
Another thing is that China is 8 hours ahead and even though it spans a couple of time zones

I'm currently stopped off in Liuzhou (situated on the Lui river in central Guangxi) on our way to stay in a Dong Village with some locals then its off to Hong Kong.
Right of to sample the local fare and search out new and exciting beers : )

Safe travels

Scotty does Chinese (not very well)
It wasn't just the Scottish accent that the poor locals didn't undrstand with Shauny boy, it was because he was speaking the wrong language!!. He consistently, at the amusement of the whole of the group, either spoke a made up language of his own,(Shauny land) Which wasn't his Glasgow twang. It sort of sounded oriental, of a fashion or sort of a bit 'French-come Chinese type language Much to the bewilderment of the locals!! No wonder we never got the right food order or the right anything for that matter!!
