"He who is not every day conquering some fear has not learned the secret of life" –Ralph Waldo Emerson

I'm driven towards experiences that make my heart race, my mind go fuzzy, and adrenaline surge... and a 265 foot, head-first bungee jump off the Colorado River Bridge in Costa Rica accomplishes just that.  As I tip-toe to the edge of the bungee platform I feel drunk with adrenaline…
Why am I driven towards experiences that scare me?  The answer is simple.  Facing my fears is incredibly rewarding.  I come away from the experience with more self-confidence and self-trust.  Overall, I walk away a stronger person.  I believe thatwhen we follow the advice of Ralph Waldo Emerson to “Do what you're afraid to do”, we can accomplish more than we can imagine.
My toes hug the edge of the platform.  Here comes the countdown, “Five, four, three, two, ONE!”.  I dive into the air, arms spread wide.  I’m free-falling, cutting through the air and moving faster than I ever have in my life.   I’m moving so fast that the rainforest surrounding me is a blur.  Then, before I can think, I’m springing back up and swinging over the river.  As they pull me up with the rope, I’m euphoric.  “That was AWESOME”, I say over and over.
I have a friend who wants to swim with sharks.  “I went bungee jumping today!”, I tell him. “You’re crazy,” he responds, " but in a good way”.  I chuckle.  When someone who wants to swim with sharks tells you you’re crazy, you start to take it as the truth.  So it’s official: I’m crazy! And in a lot of ways: I’m crazy brave, crazy passionate, crazy happy.  I run towards my fears and make myself dizzy with adrenaline.

Might I venture to suggest that the secret to life is being crazy about living?

I totally agree with you. I have this big fear for the ocean, and last year I went to Mexico and swan with a whale shark, I just can't describe the mix of feelings right when I was in the open ocean with a whale shark. I cried like a baby after I came out of the water. But the reason I did it was to oversome that fear I have, yes becuase is still there...
