Tonight we are off by bus to Potosi (10hrs - 1000km due south) - the eledorado of South America, highest city of the world (4090m) where enough silver was mined to build a two carraige road of pure silver all the way to madrid is the only city in South America to have gained imperial status during the colonies. Also the dreaded slave city e were the indigenous people from all over south america were sent to work in the mines. More news upon arrival.

Arrived in Potosi at 6am, got a hostel and slept till 12. Alot calmer than La Paz - ouf. Visited the still active mines of the moutain  Potosi were the most Silver in teh world has been extracted. The miners are still working in the same conditions as colonial times, apart formt eh fact they have helmets. During the history of this mine over 6 million people (mainly idians) have died extracting silver for the Spanish so the history is not the joyest but now the miens are owned through cooperatives and every miner chooses to mine or not.

Ok well short entry. Tonight we leave for Uyumi, going on a 3 day excursion of the Salar of Uyumi which ends with us entering Chili at San Pedro or San Juan can`t quite remember. From there we take a bus to Santiago (23h). Should arrive at Santiago on the 22nd or 23rd. Not quite sure when I will be able to update the blog before then as we will be crossing sand deserts, salt deserts and more deserts so I doubt I will have access to internet.

Dans la mine
Short comment too !!!

Photo - Us in the mine
