While this is not a travel entry, I am here to introduce who I am, what I'm doing, where I'm doing it and who I have to thank for it.
The next year of my life, 2007, will be spent on a Rotary Youth Exchange in Germany. I will be likely staying with 3 host families in the northern German town of Schleswig, an old Viking city, which was Danish 200 years ago. A good 5 months ago, well past the application date for Rotary Exchanges, i applied after a friend of mine, Dan, told me he had applied. Now, 6 months on and thanks to the help of all the people at my local Rotary Club, thanks to the good will of the International exchange committee, thanks to the generosity and support of my family, and thanks to the recommendation of my friend (who is also heading off to Germany for this year), I am packing my bags for what will hopefully be one of the best years of my life.
I want to encourage every person who reads this to find time to take a holiday, to learn about life in what is almost another world. To take time off study and work, or to take time off to study and work. Either way, to find time in your life to travel and experience the world. I want to encourage anyone in high school to consider taking a Rotary Exchange, perhaps at the end of this year i will be able to justify why, but at the moment all I can say is that Rotary International has given me an oppurtunity that few people get, and that i will never forget, for better or for worse. To actually live in another country, to be treated (hopefully) as a local.
Thankyou
