After a 24 hour bus journey from Jaipur, I arrived in McLeod Ganj, the home to the Tibetan government in exile and the Dalai Lama. The town is much cooler than central India and is populated my a mixture of Tibetans, monks and Indians.
I had the first trip-up on my journey on arrival to McLeod Ganj, literally. Since the Dalai Lama is in town and will be giving teachings this week, all the motels were full. I marched with my packs up and down hilly paths to find an available room and wasn't looking at the path. I fell head first and sprained my ankle. Since I'd wanted to do some trekking the Himalyas, this was a big setback. I found a Tibetan medical clinic and had them examine my ankle and before I knew it, they were putting acupuncture pins in along with some herbal creams and heat. I woke up this morning and feel 50% better. On the upside, I'll stick around town for the Lama's teachings while I heal.
