In preparation for our long trip overseas we got the chance to go to France with the Midgleys.
After a long overnight ferry journey from Portsmouth we arrived into Saint-Malo early in the morning and were greeted by sunshine and stunning sea views. For a Saturday morning at 9.30am the town was ridiculously quiet but gave us a good chance to explore and take some photos before town got really busy.

We then made our way from Saint- Malo to our accommodation, Hilguy de Manoir near the city of Quimper. The site is built around a beautiful manor house and had an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a croquet lawn and a nice big courtyard where we played a lot of French Boules. During our stay in Brittany we made several trips to the local sights including Locronan, Guillvinec, Concarneau and Quimper itself.

Concarneau was a particular highlight. On arrival it seemed that the main thing to do there was to visit the market however when we went over the bridge we found a bustling town within the castle walls. The atmosphere was fantastic as the town features loads of creperies, ice cream parlours and gift shops. Admittedly it was very touristy, but we had a great day there and my mint ice cream made me very happy.

We also visited the seaside town of Guillvinec where you can watch the many fishing boats come in at the end of the day to unload their catch. Boat after boat came in to deliver their fresh Langoustine as well as other larger fish, and that evening we enjoyed some of the fresh catch at home for dinner!

Over the week we ate copious amounts of delicious French bread, crepes and cakes and of course sampled the wine and beer - pretty sure I put on about a stone each day but it's impossible to resist when it's that delicious! The locals were very accommodating and friendly and the staff at the manor were fantastic. Plus we were incredibly lucky with the weather enjoying 25C-32C sunshine every day.

Other than visits to the local attractions, we spent a lot of time at the manor itself making use of the facilities. The croquet got particularly competitive.

All in all, it was a great week in a beautiful region!
