Next time I rent a car in Argentina, I'm going to make sure to ask if cow-collisions are covered by the damage waiver.

One of the best parts of Bariloche was getting away from it to check out all the tiny villages nestled along alpine lakes in the surrounding area.  The scenery is stunning - you cannot believe how beautiful the lake district of Patagonia is.  Snow capped mountains, pine forests, crystal clear lakes, little alpine villages with chocolate shops, and ski resorts.

Four new friends and I rented a car, got a map, packed a lunch, grabbed our iPods and took off to see mountains, lakes, pine forests, and lots of cows and sheep.

We chose a 280 mile route called the seven lakes road and had an amazing time - but I didn't realize that half of those 280 miles were on wash-board gravel roads. Now I understand why the car rental agency had a somewhat concerned look when we outlined our plans.  I also didn't realize how much cows like to lay down in the middle of the road.

The first cow encounter, we stopped to take photos of the calves for about 10 minutes.  After our 100,000th cow encounter we just honked the horn and yelled "get the Hell out of the road, cow!"

Next up: Whale watching!
