Where I stayed
It was just a mattress on the floor and the toilet and shower were one along the hall, when i took my first shower got swamped by toilet paper from the toilet bin 3 feet away-hmmmm nice! But was willing to slum it as thats what its all about,eh!?
Decided to avoid the tuk tuks today and catch a long tail boat along the river, man they rip took a few photos as you go down the river you can see the grand temples approaching in the distance along the river and they look so smart but we were motoring that much couldnt get a still photo!
Went to see the Grand Palace, which was huge with loads of different temples in its grounds.Mainly the temple of the Emerald Buddha, although you couldnt take photos inside it was a buddha made out of Jade emerald, and the temple which housed it was a huge thing made from stones and precious rocks, really grand.
Went from the Grand Palace to the Wat Po after another Thai passer by decided to come over and recommend it to me.
The people in Bangkok although you get a lot of pushers and people selling you stuff you tend not to trust anyone and think of it as being a big city attitude like London, but loads of times i'd be walking down a street trying to find my way to somewhere and a young lad,or woman would stop and ask if i was ok and knew where i was going. Theyd tell me about the history and recommend places to avoid and places worth going, and even the times when they were free entries! nothing like i expected, after the Tsunami Thailand's apparantly having a big push on tourism to get the tourists back and so even people passing on the street are trying to make it as nice a visit for you as poss so you go back and tell your mates to come.
Found the Wat Po eventually,WoW!
In a big temple, a 50+foot long buddha reclining on one side,15metres high from shoulder to head, made out of gold.I couldnt get it all in one photo it was that big. The feet at one end of the figure measured from heel across the same height as me,just one foot! they were made out of mother of pearl and the reclining buddha symbolises the moment he entered "nirvana"-and no not the band! his moment of enlightenment.
