Where I stayed
We woke up an went for breakfast were a very effeminate Thai man wearing red lipstick reluctantly cooked u fried eggs on a hot plate - he had very long fingernails.
We got our stuff together and hopped into a cab to the President Solitaire Hotel in a swanky part of a Bangkok - our indulgence for NYE. After a further one and half hours waiting in the lobby we were able to check into our suite on the ninth floor - a lovely room with a luxurious feel overlooking the Bangkok skyline.
Realising we had nothing smart enough to wear to get us safely into the NYE rooftop parties we went out in search of suitable attire. Plenty of Arab owned shops selling plastic shoes at thirty dollars and all of the tops looked like the clothes of choice for Crystal Carrington
We started with really strong cocktails in Marsh Mallow bar and then on to Le Fenix Hotel, specifically Nest rooftop party. When we arrived there were people milling around trying to get in - we strode confidently past and got in the lift to the rooftop, and there we were; live band, manmade beach area with deckchairs, glitzy glamorous people and professional photographers. Vikki secured us a seat in prime location and Paula purchased sparkly wine from the bar donning a pink jesters hat in celebration which seemed to attract the photographers (we're awaiting the release of the photo's).
Around 10pm the live acoustic set was replaced with a DJ and we got talking to Katie and Lyn - a couple from Chiang Mai. Katie was originally from Canada and a little bit 'wired' and lucky for us Lyn spent a lot of her time back and forth between the bar getting us shots and bubbles. There were obviously some relationship issues because as we were singing Auld Lang Syne to the sound of fireworks at the stroke of midnight, they were intermittently crying and hugging, oblivious to the celebrations around them.
When the bubbles finally ran out we shared a bottle of vodka between the four of us and by the time that was down to the last drops we decided to call it a night from dancing on our chairs and yelling Happy New Year. With the hotel just around the corner we staggered back saying goodbye to 2012 and an excited hello to 2013!
